11.-13.06.25: Report on the Class Trip to Trier
Introduction
This year's class trip took us to Trier, Germany's oldest city, known for its impressive Roman buildings and rich history. The trip took place from Wednesday, June 11th to Friday, June 13th, 2025, and included the classes 8a, 8b, and 8c.
Main Part
Day 1 – Arrival and First Impressions
The exciting day started at 7:45 a.m., when all students gathered at the Medicenter parking lot. Soon the bus arrived, and we loaded our suitcases and backpacks. After about 1.5 hours of driving, we arrived at the youth hostel in Trier. Everyone was extremely excited – not only because of the beautiful view of the river, but also because of the hot weather (about 30°C).
After unloading our luggage, we waited outside while the teachers checked us in. Then we started our tour to the first destination: the Porta Nigra! After a 20-minute walk, we reached this huge and ancient Roman gate. We took a group photo and explored the inside. The cool, shady interior and the view over the city were amazing.
Next, we visited Trier Cathedral, an enormous and impressive church. Inside, we saw everything a typical Catholic church includes: an altar, organ, benches for kneeling, and confessionals. It was fascinating to imagine how such a building could be constructed without modern machines.
Afterwards, we finally had free time in the city center, where we could go shopping, eat something, or just hang out and relax. When the time was up, we walked back to the hostel.
In the evening, we had dinner – curry with rice – which, like most youth hostel food, was "okay" but nothing special.
To end the day, we enjoyed a campfire with marshmallows and Stick bread. It was a fun and relaxing evening. Once the fire burned down, we went to our rooms and slept well after the long day.
Day 2 – Culture and Celebration
After breakfast at 7:00 a.m., we headed out to visit the Kaiserthermen, ancient Roman baths. It was exciting to walk through the underground tunnels and learn about how Romans used these thermal baths centuries ago.
Afterwards, we went back to the city center, where we all enjoyed ice cream to cool down from the heat. Then we had some free time to explore downtown Trier again.
Later, we gathered and walked to the Landesmuseum Trier, where we took part in an exciting museum rally. It was both educational and fun to discover the exhibits and solve the tasks in teams.
In the evening, at 8 p.m., we had a class party at the youth hostel. We danced, laughed, and celebrated a great second day of our trip.
Day 3 – Farewell and Return
On the final day, we packed our bags and went bowling together – a perfect ending to our time in Trier. After that, we took the bus and drove back to Pirmasens, tired but full of memories. Just like the previous days, the weather was very hot, but we all managed it well and stayed hydrated.
Conclusion
The class trip to Trier was an unforgettable experience. We learned a lot about Roman history, had fun with our classmates, and enjoyed the sunny summer weather. It was a perfect mix of education, culture, and fun – a trip we will all remember for a long time!
